Wendelin Prentice
Dear fellow traveler under the moon,
I saw you standing in the shadows and your eyes were blue.
You put your hand out, opened the door.
You said, "Come with me, boy, I want to show you something more."Sea Wolf | Dear Fellow Traveler
Name: Wendelin Prentice
Age: Late Twenties (26 in ARR)
Height: 5 Fulm, 6 Ilms
Build: Lithe, wiry, compact. At a glance...
Wendelin is a diminutive man even by the standards of Midland Hyur. His eyes are a dark, stormy grey that suit his stern expression well, and the shadows around them speak to his lack of proper rest. He keeps his ash-white hair cropped to about chin length, and typically wears it loose, or else in a simple ponytail. His clothes are almost always in neutrals or dull earthy tones, the most common combination being a simple white tunic, an olive green cloak, and sturdy leather boots. His conjuring tool of choice is a dryad cane familiar.
History
The Prentice family can trace their roots back to the days of Gelmorra. Though Wendelin's ancestors were apprentices to Jorin Lightheart, father to the first of the Padjal, their family line remained unremarkable. With the exception of a few Hearers every generation, the Prentice conjurers lived a life of simple service to Gridania's people, and the Seerseers that govern them.Wendelin flourished as a conjurer, but lacked any gifts as a Hearer. A quiet resentment of Elemental law and the absolute power of the Padjal only continued to fester in the wake of the Calamity. With the Elementals weakened and the denizens of the Twelveswood suffering the disaster's aftermath, Wendelin distanced himself from the Stillglade Fane to work independently as healer and herbalist.
In group RP situations...
+ Is not the Warrior of Light, but does have a lesser version of the Echo.
+ Remains a conjurer and botanist, rather than being granted a White Mage crystal. After life in Gridania reaches a boiling point, Wendelin became an adventurer.
+ He spent much of his time in Coerthas after leaving the Shroud, and grew close to a House Fortemps knight who served under Haurchefant's command. Wendelin doesn't like to discuss what befell him, but will admit that he didn't survive to see the end of the Dragonsong War.
+ Typically spends his time in the Twelveswood, Coerthas, or La Noscea taking odd jobs. Thanalan's too hot for his liking, but he's travelled there on occasion. He's turning his sights to the rest of the Star as more nations open up trade and travel now that the war with Garlemald has ended.
+ Openly dislikes Ishgard, but seems to maintain an infrequent presence there... perhaps out of spite. Members and allies of House Fortemps and Haillenarte treat him kindly, but he's typically either unknown to (or disliked by) the wider city. He has an honourary knighthood that a few people would like to see revoked.
Trivia and Notes
+ Many of Wendelin's attempts to help the denizens of the Twelveswood have toed the line of what the Elementals allow, or crossed that line entirely. He's gathered a disquieting amount of Woodsin over his life that's had to be counteracted with favours to the guild and the occasional ritual mask.+ Despite this, he has a warm and affectionate relationship with Maroile, the hearer who supervises meditations in the Stillguard Fane. They were apprentice conjurers together, and though recent years have pushed their lives in different directions, Wendelin respects and cares for the man far more than he does most other members of the guild.
+ Besides being a forager and botanist, Wendelin is an avid herbalist and enjoyer of herbal tisanes. His favourite mundane aspect of his travels is to study new plantlife and sample the local herbs and teas.+ Even before his father's death during the Calamity, Wendelin's Coerthan-born mother struggled to acclimate to Gridanian life. She eventually left, having failed to convince her husband and son to come wiht her, and has since made a new life for herself in Limsa Lominsa as a member of the Sanguine Sirens.+ Wendelin has an overwhelming affection for all varieties of Mandragora, and he'll go out of his way to avoid doing them harm when encountering them in the wild.
